Description du poste / stage

The European Commission (EC) and the European Space Agency (ESA) are jointly developing Europe’s own navigation-satellite system, Galileo. Galileo is an independent satellite navigation system providing a highly accurate, guaranteed global positioning service under civilian control. The system will comprise the Galileo Space Segment, providing a constellation of satellites, complemented with the Galileo Ground Segment, providing system and satellite monitoring and control. The GALILEO 2 generation (G2G) is the evolution of the current system, with improved performance and services to the users.

Airbus Defence and Space is looking for a “performance and algorithms engineer” for the phase B of the G2G program.

You will join the « Navigation and ATM » department in the « Engineering / User Ground Systems» directorate of Airbus Defence and Space. The department is in charge of definition, development and Integration, Verification and Validation of critical Ground Systems or Functional chains for Navigation and Air Traffic Management.

You will integrate the GALILEO ground segment performance and algorithms team, and contribute to the studies and activities for the GALILEO 2G phase B with ESA. You will work closely on the specification, design, and analysis of new algorithms for the ground segment performance. More specifically, you will support the system design requirements on performance and develop innovative algorithms for message dissemination.

This position will require a security clearance or will require being eligible for clearance by the recognized authorities.

Tâches et missions principales, responsabilités

Your main tasks and responsibilities will include:

  • Requirements analysis.
  • Technical review of system design issues for performance.
  • Design and development of GNSS algorithms for dissemination.
  • Analysis and report of technical solutions.
  • Support and development of simulation Tools.
  • Interaction with the customer and suppliers.

This role could involve some travels for business and as such you must be able to travel accordingly.

Compétences requises

We are looking for candidates with the following skills and experience:

  • Educated to a Master degree level (or equivalent) in Engineering.
  • Experience of 3 to 5 years minimum.
  • Theoretical and practical knowledge of satellite based navigation systems like GPS, GALILEO or EGNOS.
  • Understanding of satellite data dissemination flow and navigation message generation and processing.
  • Understanding of GNSS end user constraints and GNSS applications.
  • Experience on ground segment : control and mission center, antenna stations.
  • Proven experience in a Systems & Software engineering team.
  • Demonstrable proven experience in a pro-active problem solving role.
  • Experience in standard engineering software development languages like Matlab and C/C++.
  • Ideally, experience in Project management.
  • Interest for R&D and innovation.
  • Ability to analyze and solve complex project situations.
  • Team minded, ability to communicate on technical subject.
  • Autonomy and scientific rigor.
  • You have an Advanced level of English and French.
