Internship – Orbital Mechanics Engineer for Optical Orbit Determination (M/F)

Based in Cannes (France)

Job Description

Joining our teams you will be at the heart of the most advanced technologies in the space field. You will be integrated in the product line Control Segment and Benches, which contains the software systems that allow to operate the satellites during their lifetime in orbit.

The objective of this internship is to implement an innovative system of orbit determination, traditionally done with measurements from RF stations, by means of optical observations. You will be in charge of the following missions:

- After understanding the existing chain of signal acquisition and treatment (from the telescope and the sensor, to the software used for astrometric reduction and finally to the orbit determination algorithms used in the geostationary orbit), you will focus on the problem of optical orbit determination for a non-geostationary satellite, in order to identify the modifications to be made to the existing solution.

- After that, you will implement all or part of these modifications and you will organize the observation campaigns on site. Emphasis will be then placed on estimating the performance of the system, its limits and opportunities.

You will work in close collaboration with the FDS (Flight Dynamics Software) team.

Technical skills

- Master’s degree engineering student

- Knowledge of orbital mechanics (orbit restitution), geometrical optics and signal processing.

- Capable of understanding and producing mathematical algorithms from existing libraries (Scilab, Celestlab, python)

- You can speak, read and write technical documentation in English

Preferred skills

- You are a team player, motivated and organized person.

- You are autonomous and rigorous at work.

- You are passionate about the space sector and developing new technologies.
