Description du poste / stage

A great opportunity for an ADIRS new technology development & integration engineer has just open within Airbus Commercial Aircraft entity in Toulouse.

Airbus is working on a new and exciting challenge for Airbus and Aeronautic in general: “The more autonomous aircraft”

It is at least as significant as the introduction of electrical flight control and flight with two pilots on previous decennium.

It will necessitate the use of new technologies, development of new function with new competencies, new way of working and new methodology.

Our contribution for this more autonomous aircraft project is to develop the future navigation system.
It is a significant step in term of technology and the way to combine them to increase navigation system performance and availability.

New sensors like camera, radar, laser… need to be added and integrated with the current sensors (GPS, inertial, accelerometer, air data sensors…) to build the future navigation system.

New functions and algorithms need to be developed using recent methodology (data fusion, machine learning, big data…)

We want to set up also new ways of working with more digital features, with more model based engineering and simulation for development.

In this context we are looking for an engineer who wants to participate to this challenging project and who can provide his hybridization/ integration experience for these technologies.



Tâches et missions principales, responsabilités

The ADIRS provides mandatory information to the avionic systems and the pilot to navigate and fly the aircraft (altitude, speed, position, heading and aircraft attitude) based on temperature, barometric, anemometric and inertial measurement.

The system is classified as a critical system with a high safety level.

The system is composed of

  • Anemometric sensors installed on the fuselage (pitot probe, Angle of Attack, Side Slip Angle, temperature probe, static pressure probe) that are submitted to severe environmental condition
  • Inertial and accelerometer sensor installed in a computer (Air Data & Inertial Reference Unit). This ADIRU compute also air data information coming from anemometric sensors
  • A back-up computer, Integrated Standby Instrument System (ISIS), dissimilar to the ADIRU

In the frame of engineering / ADIRS system organization in Toulouse, the job owner will be in charge, with the Research & Development team, of the definition, the development and integration of the new technologies in the future navigation architecture.

With the R&D team, the job owner will be in charge of:

  • Define and choose the technologies
  • Verify technologies performances in flight test
  • Develop this technologies with the supplier
  • Define the new functions and performances
  • Define the integration/ hybridization between the different sensors
  • Develop function with model based engineering methodology and tools

The job owner will have also to explore new digital/ big data technologies in order to improve aircraft in service event analysis, improve aircraft maintenance, propose new services to airline, develop new features for future aircraft and improve efficiency of the development.

This job requires an awareness of any potential compliance risks and a commitment to act with integrity, as the foundation for the Company’s success, reputation and sustainable growth.



Compétences requises

You will have the following skills and experience:

  • Degree in Aeronautical Engineering, ideally in systems engineering (or equivalent)
  • 5 years or more of experience on Hybridization/ integration of multi-sensors
  • Knowledge of digital technologies (big data, machine learning, Artificial intelligence)
  • Knowledge of software tools (Matlab, Simulink)
  • Language used for big data (python) would be a plus
  • Team spirit
  • Innovative minset
  • Agility, proactivity and ability to take altitude and decision in front of issues or new subjects.
  • Negotiation level of English
  • Speaking French would be nice to have
